Naja Newell is an emerging documentary filmmaker and community archivist.
Creating a tether for those that have been misinformed, displaced and or erased, she engages with the process of historical mining and inquiry as a generative, artistic method. Through the reuse, re-contextualization, and juxtaposition of existing cultural artifacts she challenges linear narratives and invites new possibilities.
Her film A Thousand Words was nominated for Best Screenplay and Best Documentary in CUNY Film Festival. Her experimental work, extensions, has also been featured in EstroGenius Festival. Her AP credits include Andre Is an Idiot (Sundance 2025 Audience Award winner), How Deep Is Your Love, A Life Illuminated, and Underland.
She is a proud member of Brown Girls Doc Mafia, a plant mom of 10, and a house movement artist.
